How to get there:
The Lakshadweep group of islands is well connected both by Air and
Sea. While Islands like Agatti & Bangaram can be reached by Air, the
other islands can be reached by ship from Kochi.

Kavaratti
As its
administrative headquarters, Kavaratti makes you feel most
at home as it happens to be the most developed. 52 mosques
spread out across the islands and include the exquisite Ujra
mosque. The Latter displays an ornate ceiling carved from a
piece of driftwood.
Explore the Lagoon for water sports and swimming or the
sandy beaches for basking in the sun. Revel in the marine
life exhibits at the Marine Aquarium. Glimpse the exotic
marine life floating underwater from the glass-bottomed
boats. If you’re a water sports enthusiast, opt for water
sports crafts like Kayaks and Sailing Yachts. |

Kalpeni
Though
relatively shallow, Kalpeni's lagoon is the largest and is
ideal for all kinds of water sports. The huge storm bank of
coral debris along the eastern and southeastern shoreline is
fascinating on the atoll. The nearby tiny islets of Tilakkam,
Pitti and the uninhabited Cheriyam complete with a sparkling
lagoon add to the scenic charm. Swim, or indulge in other
water sports at Koomel-it are the gently curving bay offers
exhilaration on Kayaks, sailboats, Pedal Boats. |

Minicoy
Though
geographically isolated, the island has a rich tradition of
performing arts. Lava dance, the most attractive among them,
is performed on festive occasions. Other attractions include
a visit to the tuna canning factory, the light house built
by the British in 1885, and a long drive through dense
coconut groves and winding village roads. |

Kadmat
Kadmat is the only island in the group which has lagoon on
both the sides. Besides the shallow lagoon on the west that
is perfect for water sports, there is also a narrow lagoon
on the east. Thick green coconut palm leaves form a natural
canopy that protects from sunlight and its exclusivity is
increasingly making it a haven for honeymooners. It has the
finest diving spots in India. Kadmat is the only island
apart from Bangaram and Agatti where international tourists
are allowed. |

Agatti
Unlike others,
it is the only island where one can stay as long one wishes
due to the regular to and for flights. A virtual gateway to
the islands, Agatti has the only airport in the island. Get
away to one of the most beautiful lagoons from here. A
twenty-bedded tourist resort has also been set up here. |

Bangaram
This uninhabited
Island is a Romantic's delight. The teardrop shaped island
is encircled by creamy sand, but the luxuriant coconut trees
protect from Sun's rays. Three uninhabited islands in the
same atoll, Tinnakara, Parali-I and Parali-II complement the
nature's bounties. The deep, warm, clear waters of Indian
Ocean with its myriad flora and fauna irresistibly invite
you to the scuba dive. The natural efflorescence of black
coral formations, diverse coral fishes, awesome sharks,
manta rays, sting rays moray eels and turtles make enable an
inimitable diving experience.

Do's and Dont's
- Make sure your
reservation of tour in advance before leaving your station.
- Carry your special brand of medicines, cosmetics, cigarettes etc.
as only ordinary varieties will be available on the islands.
- While on board the ship, a representative of SPORTS has been
specially designated to assist you. In case of any difficulty,
please avail of his services.
- Litter the land or the water. It pollutes.
- Pick up corals as souvenirs. It is a punishable offence.
- There is prohibition on all islands except Bangaram.
- Carry narcotics or drugs. It is a punishable offence.
- Swim or sunbathe nude. It is prohibited.
- Go out of your island lagoon without permission of the SPORTS
authorities and without a proper escort. It can be risky.
- Pluck tender coconuts yourself. The trees are privately owned and
unauthorized plucking of coconuts is a theft. Also a fall from the
palm tree can prove dangerous. |
